METHUEN - William A. Boland, 87, longtime resident of Andover and Haverhill, passed peacefully at home on July 29, 2023. Bill was a loving and cherished husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was devoted to and cherished by his beloved wife of 61 years, Maureen (Curtin) Boland, his children, Mary Beth Haut, Daniel Boland, and Julie Patten, grandchildren, Catherine, Caitlin, Thomas, Megan, and Jack, and sons-in-law, Tom Haut and Chris Patten.
Bill was warm, caring, patient, athletic, and fun! He was raised in a loving home, where family, faith and hard work were the foundation, and Bill and Maureen raised their children with the same pillars. Bill was the son of Thomas H. and Mary V. (Cronin) Boland. In addition to his immediate family, Bill leaves his brother and his wife, James and Rose Boland, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He was predeceased by siblings Mary, Thomas, Katherine, Sheila, and their spouses.
Born and raised in Bradford, Bill graduated from Haverhill High School, earned an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Merrimack College and a master’s degree from Purdue University’s Business School. A lifelong learner, Bill joyfully shared his love of learning with his children and grandchildren.
Bill enjoyed a fulfilling and successful career, providing a happy and comfortable life for his family. He taught his children to read, ski, hike, play a variety of land and water sports, and above all else, how to love and care for others. Bill was a gracious host, who with Maureen, welcomed family and friends to their homes at the beach and lake. Bill volunteered at Bread and Roses and Cor Unum, where he enjoyed, among other duties, manning the dessert cart and helping guests enjoy something sweet.
