Virginia ‘Ginnie’ Waldron Obituary

HAVERHILL - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Virginia A. Waldron, age 72, on May 23, 2024 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Ginnie will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, her passion for child welfare, her love of cooking and her devotion to her family.

Born on March 7, 1952 in Swampscott, Massachusetts, Ginnie was the daughter of the late James F. Waldron and Janette R. Waldron. She grew up in Haverhill, graduating from St. James High School in 1969.  She attended UMass in Amherst and went on to dedicate 47 years to social service, advocating for troubled teens and special education students. Her professional journey began at Harbor School, a residential treatment center for teens and continued at The Walker School, improving child welfare and special education programs throughout Massachusetts. Before retiring in 2020, she worked at The Massachusetts Association of Approved Private Schools (MAAPS), a statewide association of schools dedicated to providing educational programs and services to students with special needs. Her work in these programs offered many children support, hope and a path to a better future.

Ginnie’s spirit was also evident in her love of cooking! Her kitchen was always filled with the aroma of something great on the stove. Cooking was Ginnie’s way of showing love, and she delighted in sharing her recipes with family and friends.

An avid cat lover, there was never a time without the companionship of a furry friend. Ollie will miss Ginnie as much as the rest of us!

Ginnie is survived by her daughter Jennifer and husband Chris, her grandson Christopher, her sisters Mary Jane Stevens (Mike), Pat Johnson (Mark) and Maureen Mount (Chip), her aunt Helen Flynn and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Rest in peace Ginnie. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
