Violet Sayrs Obituary

LAWRENCE – Violet Y. Sayrs, resident of Lawrence, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 12, 2021.

Violet, aka “Babe” was born on August 25, 1945 at J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody, MA. She was educated in the Lawrence School System. Named after her mother Violet, and was the third born daughter of five girls.

She sacrificed her way through the good times and bad. Violet did everything for her family and was a giver that showered her family and friends with love and gifts that gave her so much pleasure. Violet was a music lover and her favorite band was "The Beatles.” She loved to sing and dance, sewing and even made two wedding gowns for family members as well as place mats and recently masks during the pandemic. Violet was extremely creative and articulate.

She quit Lawrence High School to work full time to help her family. Violet began working at Lawrence General Hospital as a dietary aide, then becoming a nurse's aide and worked at the hospital for 17 years on the 11:00 PM to 7:00AM shift. She walked back  and forth from home until she got her driver’s license at age 31. Violet left the hospital and started her new career in August of 1981 with Raytheon Co. She shined as a group leader and retired from after 29 years of service, almost 30.

Her daughter Yolanda was her pride and joy along with her family, sisters, nieces and nephews. She loved football and of course Tom Brady was her favorite player. Violet loved telling jokes and could remember every last detail of one. Babe will be sadly missed as she was loved by all.

She was the daughter of the late Anthony S. and Violet Sayrs. Survived by her daughter Yolanda Sayrs; siblings Roseanne (Dolly) Cabral and her partner Thomas Dinning of Methuen, Mary Conant and her husband David of Hampton, NH and Kathleen Martin and her partner Glenn Riel of Dracut; nieces and nephews Debra Carignan and her husband Steven of Salem, NH,  Manuel Cabral, Jr. of Pelham, NH, John Cabral and his wife Sue of Salem, NH, Edward Desmet and his wife Jane of Derry, NH,  Michael Anthony Ravell of Barnstead, NH, Deanna Gagnon and her husband Joseph of Dover, NH, Thomas Desmet and his partner Lauren Brown of Methuen and Leandra Ferry and her partner Harold Jordan of Pelham, NH; also leaves many great nieces and nephews behind as well as many close friends that were like family to her. Predeceased family members include by her sister Deanna Desmet and her husband Edward, brother in-law Manuel Cabral, Sr. and Lt. Colonel Sean M. Judge who was like a son to her and his surviving wife Carmen of Charlotte, NC.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 16 in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Services beginning in the funeral home at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery.
