Vera (Beryl) Puddester-McKenna, 79, passed peacefully on March 18, 2026, at Billerica Crossings, surrounded by the care and comfort of Matthew and Heather. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph McKenna, with whom she shared 29 years of deep love and happiness.
Beryl was born in 1946 in Ochre Pit Cove, Newfoundland, to Frances and Lindsey Puddester. She carried her roots with pride throughout her life and later became a proud United States citizen on February 15, 2008—a milestone that meant a great deal to her.
Her professional journey reflected both determination and heart. After beginning her career in the corporate world, Beryl followed her true calling into education, where she became a cherished special education teacher who made a lasting difference in the lives of her students. She was deeply committed to learning, earning her degree from Suffolk University, a Master’s degree from Harvard University, and a second Master’s in special education from Salem State University.
A devoted member of the Methodist community, Beryl served faithfully as a deacon at the former Merrimacport United Methodist Church. Her faith was an important part of her life and guided her kindness, generosity, and compassion.
Beryl will be lovingly remembered for her warm and giving spirit—especially her instinct to cook a meal for anyone in need. She was a passionate believer in the democratic process and a strong advocate for women’s rights. She also found great joy in the companionship of her cats, who were always close to her heart.
She is survived by her loving sons, Matthew Farnsworth and his wife Heather Richards of Billerica, MA, and Mark Farnsworth of Chelsea, MA, who will continue to carry forward her legacy of kindness, strength, and care for others.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date with immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beryl’s memory to the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society, Salisbury. Massachusetts. For guestbook, visit www.driscollcares.com
