Theresa (Mascis) Cucuzza

Theresa Marie Cucuzza, 76, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, after a brief illness.

Born and raised in Somerville, Theresa attended Somerville High School and later earned her associate’s degree from Bunker Hill Community College. Throughout her life, she was guided by a passion for learning and helping others. In her early career, she served as a medical administrative assistant at both Mass Mental Health and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, where her kindness touched many lives. In her later years, Theresa found joy and purpose working with elementary students as an educational paraprofessional in both Florida and in Georgetown, Massachusetts. 

Theresa’s zest for life was evident in everything she did. She was a spirited woman who was known for her candid and direct manner, always speaking with honesty and ready with a laugh, an opinion, or a warm hug. She had an adventurous heart and loved making memories with her beloved partner, Billy Koeppen, during their years together in Florida. Whether it was soaking up the sunshine, strolling along the beach, or enjoying days at Disney theme parks.

Family was at the center of Theresa’s world. She adored her grandchildren — Marley, Dylan, Cole, and Evan — and never missed an opportunity to cheer at their sporting events, gymnastics meets or simply enjoy their laughter. Summers spent with extended family at Hampton Beach became treasured traditions filled with stories, sunshine, and shared smiles.  Theresa also had a creative spirit. She loved crafting, especially crochet, and Italian cooking and baking and generously shared her creations with friends and family. At her side were her beloved kitties who offered constant comfort and companionship.

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Peter Mascis, and her sisters Michelina (Mickey) Demetri, Carmella (Millie) Emond, and Virginia Angellotti — Theresa cherished memories of her family members and found strength in the hope of reunion one day.

She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Susanne Kummel and her husband Corey; her son, Tony Velardo and his wife Lisa; her grandchildren Marley Kummel, Dylan Velardo, Cole Velardo, and Evan Velardo; as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and friends.

Theresa’s warmth and unique spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
