Robert ‘Bob’ Menzie

HAVERHILL - Robert 'Bob' Menzie passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on June 7, 2024, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Born July 24, 1954 in Lawrence, Massachusetts to the late June and William Menzie, Jr., Bob attended Haverhill schools and graduated with the Class of 1973 from Haverhill High School. Following High School, Bob attended Boston University to study Urban and Regional Planning. 

In 1985, Bob married Maureen McGonagle, and started a family in Haverhill. Together, they have three sons: Kevin, Patrick and Timothy. Bob shared his love for sports with his family taking in countless Boston sports games - especially the Red Sox. Bob also enjoyed golfing with his sons and his friends. Bob was a runner of marathons including his first, the Northeast Pennsylvania Steamtown Marathon in 1998, and completed three Boston Marathons. Bob was a very involved grandparent to his five grandchildren: Aidan, Halie, Liam, Kylie and Jackson. He never missed an opportunity to cheer on their efforts at regattas, soccer games, dance recitals, softball and t-ball games. 

Bob and Maureen prioritized family travels each year including time spent in Saratoga, NY, Myrtle Beach, SC, Old Orchard Beach, ME, and Cape Cod. Last year, the entire family traveled together across Ireland to reconnect with ancestors and heritage. Bob enjoyed a special round of golf at the prestigious K Club in County Kildare with his three sons. In quiet time, Bob loved to read books and watch horse racing. Bob enjoyed live music - particularly James Taylor, who he and Maureen saw multiple times. Bob took great pride in each of his sons, and was especially proud that each of them served our nation abroad in the United States Army.

When Bob wasn't with his family he could be found with some of his great friends! Whether it was hanging with Big Jim, hitting the links with the “Hens”, grabbing a pint at Ped's, or watching sports with the “Garage Gang”. Bob enjoyed spending time with the people that he loved like family.

Bob leaves behind his loving wife Maureen Menzie; his sons Kevin Menzie and his wife Christina, Patrick Menzie, Timothy Menzie and his wife Krissta; sister-in-law Dana Menzie (wife of William); and siblings Karen Menzie and Merilyn Zak and her husband Greg; Grandchildren Aidan, Halie, Liam, Kylie and Jack; as well as brothers-in-law Patrick McGonagle (wife Carol), (the late) James “Jimo” McGonagle, Mike McGonagle (wife Maureen), Daniel McGonagle (wife Nora), Brian McGonagle (wife Audrey), sister-in-law Kathy Darby (husband Eric), brother-in-law Timothy McGonagle( wife Kathy), sister-in-law Colleen McGonagle, brother-in-law Matthew McGonagle (wife Jennifer), and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Bob is predeceased by his sister Sandra Healy and William Menzie III.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 16, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Services will begin Monday morning in the funeral home at 10:30 AM.
