Richard 'Dick' Michael Casey

Richard Michael Casey, known affectionately to friends and family as Dick, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on September 6, 2025.

Born on September 29, 1947, in Methuen, Dick lived a life marked by joy, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to his family.

He grew up in Lawrence and attended Central Catholic High School and went on to study education at Franklin Pierce where he played basketball. He later received his master’s degree at the University of Bridgeport.

Dick met the love of his life Helen (Gustavsson) while teaching in the Bronx. Dick spent his entire career molding the minds of students. Whether he was teaching them to rebuild an engine or write a paper. After retiring from the Newburyport School district he lived out his life long dream to buy an RV. He traveled the East Coast attending Nascar races and spent a winter in Florida. He was a member of the Portsmouth Country Club since 1978, where he enjoyed many sunny days.

Dick’s greatest treasure was his family.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Helen (Gustavsson) Casey; son and daughter in-law Michael and Sarrah (Young) Casey; grandpups Tank and Reba; sister Sharon (Casey) Donavan; nephew Brian; niece Casey and greatniece Aryanna. Predeceased family members include his parents Richard and Kathleen (Mahoney) Casey and grandpups Winnie and Boss hog.
