HAVERHILL - Raymond F. Galinsky died peacefully with his wife and family by his side on June 18, 2024. He was a lifelong resident of Haverhill, son of Frank and Sarah (Antkowiak) Galinsky.
Ray graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1955. He was a Korean War Veteran in the United States Air Force where he was a crew chief on a B25 aircraft on flying status stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM.
He went on to receive his associates in fire science from North Shore Community College. He retired as a lieutenant and EMT from the Haverhill Fire Department after 40 years of service. Ray was badly burnt on February 7, 1988 while searching for children on the second floor of a building fire. He was honored at the Haverhill Stadium on July 4, 1988 for his outstanding courage and heroism.
Ray was a member of St. James Parish and the St. James Holy Name, AMVETS Post 147, Local 1011 of the Massachusetts Professional Firefighter Union, The Haverhill Firemen’s Relief Association, The Haverhill Fire Department Credit Union.
Ray is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 65 years, Nancy T. (Dufour) Galinsky of Haverhill; sons William F. Galinsky and Stephen C. Galinsky and wife Marisa; grandchildren William F. Galinsky, Jr. and wife Suzanne and Stephany A. (Galinsky) Jackson and husband Jonathan; brother of the late Dorothy B. Galinsky who passed September 17, 2021.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 23, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Services will begin on Monday in the funeral home at 9:00 AM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. James Church 185 Winter Street, Haverhill at 10:00 AM.
