Phyllis (Scalese) Sargent

HAVERHILL - Phyllis (Scalese) Sargent, 89, of Haverhill, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 14, 2022.

She was born on October 10, 1932 in Haverhill. Phyllis was the daughter of the late Anthony and Angelina Scalese. Phyllis was first employed at Western Electric before joining the former Hale Hospital for 35 years until her retirement. She considered one of her greatest successes being voted Employee of the Year at the job she treasured so dearly. Phyllis spent many enjoyable years at the “Happy Hale” and wished every day that she could still be working there.

In her retirement Phyllis found her most enjoyment in watching the Red Sox, playing poker, spending summers at the beach, and playing Keno at Mr. Mike’s with Ron. She was an exceptional baker, making her famous Pizzelle cookies and Better Than Sex Cake, and always cooking delicious Italian cuisine. You couldn't walk into her home without her offering, “What can I get you to eat?” Most of all, Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her children and four granddaughters whom she truly cherished.

She is predeceased by her former husband Albert C. Sargent and her two brothers, Louie Scalese and Anthony (Jack) Scalese. Phyllis is survived by her lifelong partner and best friend Ron Hatfield, she will always be his “little brat”, her loving children, daughter Lisa (Sargent) Walukevich and son Glenn Sargent both of Haverhill, MA. She was an adoring grandmother to her four granddaughters Ashley, Breanna, Cayla and Denae Walukevich. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends. She will be sorely missed by everyone who loved and knew her.

Celebration of Phyllis’s Life will be held on Tuesday, April 19, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Services will follow beginning at 6:00 PM. For guestbook, visit www.driscollcares.com
