Peter Sullivan Obituary

AMESBURY - Peter L. Sullivan, 67, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024. He was beloved father of Cambyr S. and Trey U. Sullivan of Amesbury; son of the late Bernadine (O’Gorman) and Paul J. Sullivan of Worcester and Harwich; brother of Paul J. Sullivan and Maureen Hourihan of Brewster; Larry and Lou Ann Sullivan of Lewes, DE; Gail M. Sullivan and Joseph T. LeBlanc of Haverhill; and Jean C. Sullivan and Richard Cane of Stoneham; former spouse of and co-parent with Briana Sullivan of Amesbury, mother of their two children; he also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.

Pete earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UMass-Amherst. He moved to the Merrimack Valley in the 1980’s and worked for many years as an electrical engineer at Bell Labs. For the past decade he served as a senior design engineer at Teradyne, leading new product development teams. He was admired for his elegant and creative solutions to complex technical challenges.

Pete was a deeply kind man with an adventurous spirit. He was an empathetic and patient father. He was excellent company and a good friend known for his easy laugh and boisterous sense of humor. Pete loved watching the Patriots and Celtics and enjoying an occasional can of Whirlpool lager.

He was an accomplished athlete. He learned to sail with his parents and siblings and participated in the Outward Bound program. He traveled across the Aegean Sea, the Caribbean islands, Puget Sound and many, many places along the New England Coast. He also biked across the United States and participated in numerous mountain biking treks.

Pete also learned to ski with his parents and siblings. A mid-career leave of absence allowed him to live a few joyful months as a “ski-bum” in Utah. He and his family skied hundreds of times at Jay Peak, VT. He was an expert telemark skier and snow-covered mountains were his spiritual home.

Above all Pete was a family man, loved deeply by his children, his parents and his brothers and sisters. He cherished watching his daughter at track and cross country meets and his son at basketball games. Family and friends will carry this much-loved man in their hearts forever.
