Peter E. Eagan

HAVERHILL - Peter Eagan, 76, died on April 22, 2020. He was born on September 10, 1943, son of the late Ralph “Buffy” Eagan and Gail (Murphy) Eagan, in Milltown, NB, Canada.

Pete could accomplish anything that he set his mind to. He came to the US as a young man of 18 to make his way. As a hard worker and a straight-talker, he earned the respect of his early employers and soon after started his own business. He rapidly gained the respect of his peers and clients due to his work ethic and innovative approach. He had a mind for problem-solving and thinking outside the box.

He raised his family of four children in Stoneham where he first started his business, and where later his sons joined him.

He married his wife Cheryl in Hawaii on June 1, 2000. They continued their vacationing over the years in the tropics where Pete truly relaxed and made friends from all over. Their favorite place became Anegada in the British Virgin Islands. They moved to Haverhill where Pete enjoyed entertaining loved ones at home and holding court at his grill; and of course he befriended and helped out his neighbors who, as a testament to his generosity, never stopped offering their help when he began experiencing health challenges.

Pete seemed to know everyone and everyone seemed to know Pete. He made friends wherever he went, whether it be work, vacation or around town, with many becoming lifelong. People liked Pete. His unbreakable spirit was an inspiration to his extended family of friends and relatives who watched him persevere through challenge after challenge. He just kept going.

On February 19, 2009, Pete experienced a health event that is rare to survive. And after surviving, was told that he would not walk again. But walk he did, and then he put on his boots and got back to work. Nothing could keep him down. After we got eleven extra years with him, Pete was finally called back home after one last fight.

Pete is survived by his wife, Cheryl Wright of Haverhill; his children, son Peter John Eagan and his partner Mary Seward of North Reading, daughters Christa Johnson and husband Wayne of Stoneham, and Cindy Stanton and husband Eric of Stoneham, daughter-in-law Michelle Eagan of Billerica; step-children Kim White of Turners Falls and Buzz White of Aspen, CO; brothers Michael Eagan of Montreal and Timothy Eagan of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, sister Teresa and husband Dr. Cressie Brazier of Calais, Maine; and 9 grandchildren. He is predeceased by son Stephen Eagan and brother Chris Eagan.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 18, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.
