HAVERHILL - Pelagia (Gavrielides) Xagaras, born February 17, 1940 in Tsotyli, Kozanis, Greece, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
Pelly, as she was known, moved to the United States in 1969 with her husband Dimitrios and young son, Angelo.
Pelly loved nothing more than taking care of her family and friends; she was an excellent cook and pastry maker. She was also an active member of her church, where she spent much time helping the church in support of the homeless. She was a devout Christian and was ever-present at church functions and activities.
Pelly was predeceased by her son, Angelo, in 2009. She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Dimitrios Xagaras, son, Nicholas Xagaras and his wife Kelly, former daughter in-law, Amy Acosta, wife of her son Angelo Xagaras, grandchildren, Dimitri, Andrew, Ava, Stefan, Angelique, and Alexis, sister, Kyra Synodinos, nephew, Chris and niece, Maria, brother, Chris Gavriel and his wife Penelope and niece, Christina.
Services will begin on Friday, August 23, in Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154 Winter Street, Haverhill at 11:00 AM. Please meet directly at the church.
