HAVERHILL - Paul McVey set sail on his resolute and determined life on July 7th, 1957 in Andover, Massachusetts. Born to his adoring parents Paul and Ann. Paul grew up as the big brother to his sisters Kathy and Mary.
As a kid Paul played Little League, went to many Patriots games with his father, and much to our surprise, played the clarinet. Paul would always speak fondly of his youth in Andover and his upbringing on Lovejoy Road.
At 16, he unknowingly changed his life forever when he began his life long career with Market Basket. Over the course of the next 48 years, Paul became the man he is today. Little did he know his future wife, Jojo would chase him down the Chelsea dairy aisle when he was 24 - it was love at first sight, he didn’t stand a chance.
Together they created a Market Basket marriage - built on the cornerstones of hard work, loyalty, passion, and so much love. They raised two daughters Katie and Kristen who became the center of his universe.
Paul’s life was dedicated to his work, his family, and his beloved vacations. Part of his charm was his predictability, vacations never strayed from his home away from home at Disney World or a Princess cruise. His joy was poolside with a book in one hand and a Grey Goose and tonic in the other.
Just when he thought he had it all, Katie and her husband Jason brought his granddaughters Ada and Sylvie into the world. His girls stole his whole entire heart and melted him to his core. Of all the roles he played in life, he did Grandad best.
After a courageous and brave battle with illness Paul dropped anchor on October 7, 2021.
Paul will be remembered by those who loved him as a man of few words, an incredibly dedicated leader, the epitome of the perfect husband, daddy, and grandad.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, his best dog Henry, and his fairy god child, Avalanna. He leaves behind his loving in- laws Eddie and Barbara Pitts whom he cherished as well as a large family who will carry him in their hearts forever.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 12, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 3:00 to 7:00 PM.
