Patricia Ann Maslen, 76, of Newburyport, MA, passed away gracefully on March 6, 2026.
Patricia was born on May 6, 1949, in Brighton, MA, to Doris Ryan and John Ryan. She attended Emmanuel College and earned an undergraduate degree in education and psychology, and later a master’s degree in education from Lesley University. She worked for many years as a fifth-grade teacher at the Franklin School in North Andover.
Patricia was known for her quiet and powerful strength and grace.
She loved tending to her beautiful gardens and creating a home that felt like a sanctuary. She could often be found curled up on the couch with a new library book, savoring every word, or listening to the sounds of birds outside. She loved going on walks, traveling, practicing yoga, and meeting friends for coffee or lunch.
Patricia was a deeply faithful person and an active volunteer with Among Friends through her church community at St. Paul’s in Newburyport.
Patricia, or “Grammy,” adored her family and doted on her five grandchildren. Each year on their birthdays she wrote them long letters reflecting on their year, carefully capturing what made each child unique and celebrating their individual strengths.
When you entered her home, she made sure you were well fed, cozy, and comfortable. She tended to every detail with thoughtfulness and intention, often having each person’s favorite food or drink on hand as a way of showing her love and care.
Patricia is survived by her daughters, Pamela Ryan Maslen of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Julia Kelly Maslen of Falmouth, Maine; Pamela’s husband, Jonathan Nellis; and Julia’s former husband and dear friend, Cory White. Her legacy lives on through her five beloved grandchildren: Fiona Ryan Nellis, Alanna Maslen Nellis, Sean Kelly Nellis, David Maslen White, and Annie Patricia White.
She was predeceased by her husband, David Peter Maslen, with whom she shared 41 years of marriage.
Patricia will be deeply missed by all who love her. Her legacy will live on.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, 166 High Street, Newburyport, beginning at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice in Patricia’s memory.
