GROVELAND - Mrs. Mary Janet (Denney) Eason, a resident of Groveland and former resident of Bradford, known to friends and family as Janet, passed away at the Holy Family Hospital in Haverhill on March 8, 2025. She was 91 years old.
Born in Haverhill, MA on May 14, 1933, she was the beloved daughter of the late August C. and Barbara L. (Robinson) Denney. She grew up in Groveland and graduated from Groveland High School in 1951. Janet began her career as a registered nurse in 1954 at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) after graduating from the MGH School of Nursing. It is there where she developed several life-long friendships, one of which was with Mary Ann Eason, who later became her sister in-law. After working at MGH for several years upon graduation, she transitioned to working at the Hale Hospital in Haverhill as an IV nurse and evening nursing supervisor.
Much of Janet’s life was spent caring for others. Professionally, between her nursing roles at MGH and the Hale Hospital, she spent over 30 years caring for patients in hospital settings. Personally, Janet and Ronald provided a caring, loving home for their four children. Janet also supported extended family members, neighbors, and family friends by offering a helping hand whenever it was needed. She was a voracious reader, and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Janet was a proud participant in the Nurses Health Study, one of the largest research studies into the risk factors for chronic diseases in women, lasting close to 50 years and still ongoing. She was also a devout Catholic. Janet will be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she will be greatly missed.
Janet is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ronald P. Eason; her son Jeffrey and his wife Frances (Davidowicz); her daughter Barbara Costello and her husband Paul; and her son Timothy Eason. In addition, she is survived by her seven grandchildren and their spouses: Amanda Eason and her husband Thomas Mazza, Joan Eason and her wife Miriam Cantor-Stone, Kathryn (Katie) Costello, Sarah Costello, Kevin Costello, Shelby Eason, and Timothy Eason. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Ryan Mazza and Madelyn Mazza, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and by brother-and sister in-law Donald and Mary Ann Eason, with whom she had a special relationship. She was predeceased by her daughter, Ellen Eason, and her sister, Marcia Page.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 11, In the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Catholic Funeral Rites will be offered at 11:00 AM.
