In the early hours of Friday, June 6, surrounded by his family, Mark William McKellar, cherished husband, father, grandfather, and science teacher, passed away at the age of 65. Mark was a longtime resident of Bradford, where he lived with his beloved wife, Laura, and dog, Abby.
Mark was born in Laguna Beach, Calif. to Barbara (Lord) McKellar and the late Charles McKellar, and grew up in Wickford, R.I. where he met the love of his life, Laura (Beneduce) McKellar. They married on October 24, 1981, and moved to Massachusetts, where they raised their two children, Mark and David McKellar.
After graduating from the University of Rhode Island with a BS in economics, Mark held many jobs throughout his life from co-running a newspaper publishing company with Laura to sales consulting to countless odd jobs in his spare time. In 2014, Mark earned a Master’s of Education at American International College and fulfilled his dream of becoming a science teacher, a position he held until he became ill.
Mark was cherished by friends, family, colleagues, and students for his kindness, compassion, and, of course, his sense of humor. He loved reading, discussing science and history, building models, playing with his grandchildren, and hosting barbecues, where he served as the grill master.
Mark is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Laura McKellar; his two sons, Mark and David McKellar; his daughter-in-law, Avanti McKellar; his cherished grandchildren, Milo and Maisie, and his mother, Barbara. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Lori, and her husband, Ian, as well as his faithful dog, Abby.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the SAE Foundation to help fund STEM programming, classroom kits, vital teacher training, and STEM scholarships.
