Marilyn M. Hickey, 94 years young, of Haverhill, MA passed away unexpectedly on August 23, 2025.
Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of Cornelius Hickey and Margaret Hickey (Scanlon).
She graduated from St. James High School in Haverhill and St. John’s Nursing School in Lowell.
Marilyn was a dedicated Nurse at the Hale Hospital her entire nursing career. Most of that time as the Charge Nurse on Moody One. She was very involved with the hospital’s annual talent show that raised funds for the hospital. In her career, she took many new nurses and support staff under her wing and helped them to grow in their pursuit of giving great care to patients.
She was an avid walker and a bit of a daredevil and hiked the Alps and white-water rafted with a group of nurses and physicians from the hospital. She took annual trips to Aruba and Florida and internationally with a close group of friends. She enjoyed playing cards with friends.
She is survived by her niece Maureen Filliger of Lowell, great-nephews Brenden Hickey and wife Michaela of Atkinson, NH and Ryan Filliger and his wife Kaitlyn of Methuen; great-great nieces Leighton and Ellie Hickey of Atkinson, NH and great-great nephews Kellan Hickey of Atkinson, NH and Liam Filliger of Methuen. Also leaves her longtime family friends Joann Duffy of Haverhill, Rose and Jack Werner of Dunnellon, FL, Jean Maher and her husband Bill of Atkinson, NH.
Marilyn is predeceased by her parents Cornelius and Margaret Hickey, her brother Lawrence Hickey and his wife Lucia, her niece Jeanine Hickey, her nephew Michael Hickey, her great-nephew Patrick Hickey and close friends Rose Abate, Diane Wilson and Mary Alice Mosher.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 30, in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Please meet directly at church. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery, Haverhill.
