GROVELAND – Marie F. Carr, 91, longtime Groveland resident passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, February 2, 2021 at her home.
She was born and raised in Boston (West Roxbury) on December 6, 1929, daughter of late William and Ellen (Stackhouse) O'Brien and wife of late Robert V. Carr, Sr. She attended Holy Name School and enjoyed being part of the Holy Name Band as a piccolo player. She later attended Emmanuel College where she obtained a B.S. in Biology. She worked as a Laboratory Technician at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Newton.
Marie married Robert Carr in 1952 and they lived in both Maine and the Greater Boston area for several years until settling in Groveland in 1957 where they raised their family.
In addition to being a mother and housewife, Marie also worked as a teacher, a secretary for her husband's business and eventually as a Case Manager for the Council on Aging in Groveland.
She was an avid gardener and member of the local Garden Club, the Treasurer of Veasey Memorial Park in Groveland, and the Secretary for the Groveland Historical Society. She was a longtime communicant of St. Patrick Church, Groveland.
Marie lived a long and full life. She was a loving mother and grandmother and a well-liked and respected member of the communities she was part of. She loved the Red Sox and ice-cream.
Marie's surviving family members include, Robert V. Carr, Jr. of Groveland, Stephanie Carr and companion Mary Clinton Doucette of East Boston, MA, Paul Carr and wife Eileen of Nottingham, NH and Mary Sarah Carr and companion Glenn Smith of Easthampton; grandchildren, Michael Carr, David Carr, Jacob Carr and Megan Mack; great grandchildren Tom, Tate and George, and numerous nieces and nephews; she was the grandmother of the late Jennifer Carr.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 7, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 1:30 to 3:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 S. Main Street, Haverhill at 10:30 AM. Please meet directly at church. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Manchester-by-the-Sea. Note to wear face coverings and social distancing measures will be in place.
