Mabel Jane (Allen) Deveau

Mabel Jane (Allen) Deveau, 89, of Haverhill, MA passed away on Friday October 17, 2025 at Haverhill Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center formally Hannah Duston Nursing Home in Haverhill, MA, after a long battle with Dementia. She was the widow of Armand E. Deveau who passed away April 30th 2015, Mabel and Armand were married in 1956 and shared over 59 years together.

Mabel was born in Lewiston, ME on March 12, 1936, to the late Charles F. Allen and Clarice (Taker) Allen Holmes. Mabel would always fondly reminisce about traveling back to Maine by train as a young girl and spending the summers with her aunt at Damariscotta Lake in Maine. She attended Haverhill High School. In her younger days worked at Hightron in Newburyport MA and was a seamstress at Samuel Roberts on River St. in Haverhill. From there she held her real estate license for a time. Then in 1974 went to work for Raytheon at the Andover location and became a union shop steward. She retired in 1998 to help care for her grandchildren. Mabel was always very involved in her children and grandchildren’s lives, whether it was being a Den mother for the Boy Scouts, sewing costumes for skating shows for the Haverhill Figure Skating Club, cheering them on at countless skating competitions, softball, baseball and football games.  Anyone who knew Mabel would tell you she never sat still; she loved to be outdoors gardening and taking care of the swimming pool in the summer. If you were visiting Mabel, you could be sure she was going to make sure you were fed. Always a proper lady would never leave the house without her hair done and her lipstick on, beautiful smile and witty charm.

Mabel is survived by her loving children, son A. Edward Deveau and wife Judith of Haverhill MA; daughters Denise J. Martin and husband Paul of Haverhill MA; Nicole Zangari and husband Michael of Haverhill MA. Grandchildren Casey Karos and husband James of Hampstead NH; Nicholas Deveau and wife Katie of Amesbury MA; Jacalyn Deveau and Fiancé Robert Connelly of Lawrence MA; Joseph Martin and wife Logan of Plaistow NH; Kimberly Thistlewood and husband Tyler of Conway NH; Jaylin Deveau of Haverhill MA; Dimarnae Deveau and Fiancé Jennifer Watkins of Haverhill MA. Great grandchildren Maverick, Emerson and Becket Martin of Plaistow NH; Olivia and Edward James of Amesbury MA; Jamie and Maggie Karos of Hampstead NH; Riley and Robert Connelly of Lawrence MA. Sister Jean DiFloures of Haverhill; Brother and Sister in-laws Dale Deveau and wife Antoinette of Haverhill MA; Richard Deveau and partner Edna Hannon of Wareham MA; and several beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Elizabeth “Betty” Teague, Norman Taker, Charles “Oscar” Allen, Mary Whittier, Douglas “Buddy” Allen, Johnny Allen, Alice Muller, Viola Carter, Pauline Kershaw.
