Louise Sciuto Obituary

HAVERHILL - Louise A. (Deramo) Sciuto, 95, of Newton, NH, formerly of Haverhill, MA died on April 7, 2021 at High  Pointe House. She was born in Haverhill, MA on July 12, 1925 to Mary (Bonasia) Deramo and Domenic Deramo.She attended Haverhill Schools and was a graduate of the Haverhill High School Class of 1943.

In her long life Louise had many varied and creative careers. Her late husband Dom, often said she had “Hands of Gold”. After high school, she became a hairdresser and owned her own salon, in the 40’s and 50’s.  She was a homemaker in the 50’s and 60’s and then became a sewing teacher and professional seamstress in the 60’s and 70’s.  In the 80’s, Louise, a lifelong and exceptional cook and baker, started a confectionary and catering business with her daughters and owned and operated The Park Cafe. Louise’s dinner parties, birthday and holiday celebrations were legendary for her decorating and culinary talents and she continued to entertain into her 90’s.

As a proud member of the HHS Class of 43’ Louise served on the Reunion Committee until their final reunion. She served on the initial Advisory Board at Whittier Vo Tech as a Sewing Consultant. She was a member of the Cosmopolitan Investment Club with her dear friends Maria Abbondanza and Millie Battistini and an active member and officer on the Bartlett School PTA.

In 1950, Louise married her husband Dominic J. Sciuto; tragically he died suddenly at the age of 44 in 1969 leaving her to raise her 3 children. She was also predeceased by her parents Mary and Domenic Deramo, her brother William Deramo and her aunt Antoinette (Nina) Bevilacqua.

A devoted mother, Louise leaves her 3 children, Maria S. Fontaine, Dr. Anthony J. Sciuto and wife Marguerite and Elissa S. Dawson.  Her grandchildren, Gene Fontaine and wife Kate, Laura Sciuto, Louis Sciuto, Dominic Dawson and Gabriella Dawson and her great-grandchildren Lucy and Stanley Fontaine and Ella and Ruby Cetchovich. Louise also leaves her niece Mary (Deramo) Dube and her cousins, Mary (Bevilacqua) O’Brien and Louise Bevilacqua. She was predeceased by her nephews Billy and Mark Deramo.

The family wishes to thank High Pointe House, Home Health VNA, and Amedisys, who provided compassionate care and support to Louise.

At Louise’s request there were no calling hours and services were held privately. She is buried at St. Patrick Cemetery, N. Broadway, Haverhill. Louise had a lifelong devotion to St. Jude and requested that donations in her memory be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org
