HAVERHILL - Linda Ann (Gambino) Baxter of Haverhill, Massachusetts passed away Friday, September 13, 2024, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston with her loving family gathered around in her final hours.
Linda was born on May 20, 1942, to the late Joseph and Rose Gambino. She was a lifelong resident of Haverhill and a proud graduate of Haverhill High School’s class of 1960. She worked as a Tenant Services Coordinator for the Haverhill Housing Authority for over 30 years supporting her community. She was an active member of All Saint’s Parish and the former St. Rita’s Parish.
Linda lived a vibrant life, spending a great deal of time with her community of family and long-time friends, especially the coffee girls and fellow churchgoers. Linda was incredibly proud of her Italian heritage, sharing her recipes and hospitality widely. She recently traveled to Italy with her daughter and husband to experience her roots.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Edward Baxter, and daughter Lisa Baxter. Linda was a proud grandmother to Christopher, Elizabeth, and Caroline Faircloth, and loving sister of Mary Ellen Howcroft of Exeter, NH. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins across the country and so many friends who became family. She is predeceased by her brother, Michael Gambino.
Linda was a fierce advocate for Vietnam Veterans, having lost her brother in Vietnam in 1970, and was a Commissioner for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Mill Brook Park in Haverhill.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 16 in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Services will begin Tuesday in the funeral home at 9:00 AM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, N. Broadway, Haverhill.
