HAVERHILL - Kevin J. Powell, 72, of Haverhill, MA, sadly passed away on December 18, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 2, 1952, in Haverhill, Kevin was the beloved son of the late Evelyn M. (Johnson) and the late Walter R. Powell, Sr. ("Curly"). Lifelong resident of Haverhill, Kevin attended Haverhill Public Schools.
Kevin was the proud owner of Powell Builders, a company he led for over 40 years. Renowned for his exceptional craftsmanship and artistic woodworking skills, Kevin dedicated his life to building and remodeling homes with unmatched precision and care.
In 1978, Kevin and his wife began a lifelong labor of love when they purchased a historic farmhouse. With his passion for history and respect for tradition, Kevin devoted countless hours to meticulously restoring the home. His efforts preserved the house’s timeless character while creating a warm space for his family. This cherished home became the heart of their lives, a place where Kevin and his wife raised their children, fostering a life of warmth, love and treasured memories.
Kevin’s enthusiasm for life was evident in all he did. Being the best father and papa came easy to Kevin. He made sure to let everyone know the most important times in his life was spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He took great pleasure in being Captain Kevin of his 34’ wooden boat where he would take friends and family on fishing trips, or just a nice run down the river for much needed leisure. As a 31 year member of the Haverhill Ridge Runners Fish & Game Club, you could find Kevin enjoying 45’s, pool, listening to music and of course taking out his harmonica to jam out to the blues. Kevin would be the first to encourage people around him to have a good time, as well as being the first to ask how you were doing. He had a passion for restoring many classic cars, attending car shows, cruising, and going on trips to the mountains.
Kevin's commitment to his family, his dedication to his craft, and his tireless work ethic defined his life. His legacy will live on in the homes he built, the memories he created and the impact he had on the countless lives he touched.
Kevin is survived by wife of 51 years Susan Powell; children Kane Powell of Danville, NH, Kristen Gynan and her husband Joel of Bradford, MA and Lisa Donnelly and her husband Mike of Bradford, MA; grandchildren Kolbe, Walter and Emelia Powell, Devin and Samantha Gynan and Isla and Jax Donnelly; siblings Jeanne Ferguson, Debra Dinges, J. Edward Gillen, Tyler Powell; sister in-law Susan Cerasuolo Powell; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers H. John Powell and Walter R. Powell and brother in-law Robert Dinges.
