HAVERHILL - Jon Charles Silvia, 74, of Bradford, MA passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, after a lengthy illness. Jon is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sheila (Giurado) Silvia of Lawrence, MA. He leaves behind a son, Darren Silvia Giurado and his wife Leslie Lillian Giurado of Haverhill, MA, granddaughter Samantha Marie Giurado and her fiancé Michael Richard Chamberlain, and grandson Dylan Salvatore Giurado. He is also survived by his brother, Peter Matheson and his wife Marnie of Aiken, SC, as well as by his brother, Deacon Robert Connor and his wife Irene of Travelers Rest, SC, and their children Grace, Faith (and Ryan) Byrd, Reuben, Erin, and James. Jon was predeceased by his father, Robert Kemp Silvia along with his wife Helen (Connor) Silvia of Englewood, FL.
Jon loved his country dearly and was proud to have served in the Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany from 1970 to 1972, and retiring honorably with the rank of SP4, obtaining a National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter Rifle M-14 award. Jon was employed by Vernon Plastics for 34 years, working his way up to a high-level Sales Management position, and ultimately retired from the company.
Jon had many friends and was loved by all who knew him, but no one more than his wife, Sheila, who cared for him. For several years they kept a boat in Newburyport, MA where some of their happiest memories were spent with their friends and family. Jon was also an avid New England sports fan, especially of the New England Patriots. He loved his music, a good cigar, and in his retirement, he took on many building and woodworking projects while he and his wife restored the home they shared. He was honored when he was named by his nephew, Reuben, upon achieving his Eagle Scout rank, for his Uncle Jon’s inspiration and guidance. He will be greatly missed by all who know him, but perhaps none more than his grandchildren, Samantha and Dylan, who gave him such great pleasure.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, December 8, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Services will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. The family would especially like to express their appreciation to Ashland Farm for the exceptional care they provided to Jon at the end of his life.
