HAVERHILL - John passed away June 27, surrounded by his family after a swift and courageous battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife Stephanie (Belmer), and his daughters Merrick and Mia of Bradford. He is also survived by his siblings; Karen Provencher and her husband Bill of Nashua NH, Brian and his wife Susan of Londonderry NH, Debra Battaglia-Craig of Methuen MA, David and his wife Gail of Litchfield, NH and Diane and her husband Michael of Methuen, MA. Additionally, he is survived by 16 nieces and nephews along with his uncle, aunt, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents John O. and Elsie Mae (Becker) Battaglia.
John was born and raised in Methuen and moved to Haverhill in the late 1980’s. He was educated in Methuen and attended the Greater Lawrence Technical School. Throughout his life, he worked in industries related to building and restoration as well as shipping. An accomplished woodworker and artist, there was nothing he could not build or fix. He was very passionate about restoring his home and was meticulous in its historical preservation. A keen gardener and outdoorsman, John was especially fond of native plants as well as preserving natural habitats for the local wildlife. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and children, going to museums, concerts, festivals, browsing in antique shops, and spending time on local trails and beaches. He was a WWII history buff and was especially interested in vintage aircraft.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 8, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Words of Remembrance will begin at 6:00 PM.
