HAVERHILL - James Alan Karelitz of Yarmouth Port Cape Cod, formally of Haverhill, New Seabury on Cape Cod, and Panama City Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
Jim was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts on April 3, 1952 to the late Leona (Marcus) Karelitz and Elliott B. Karelitz. Graduated from Haverhill High School. Received a Bachelor’s Degree from Merrimack College and a Master’s Degree from Fitchburg State College. He taught first and second grades in Haverhill for 35 years at Walnut Square, Golden Hill and Greenleaf Schools.
Jim enjoyed traveling, dining out, movies, theatre, sporting events, gardening, the beach, but most of all, his job teaching.
He is survived by his maternal aunts and an uncle, as well as several cousins, especially those who were like a sister and brothers to him; Jo Ann Beauregard, husband Ed of Greenland, New Hampshire and children, Matthew and Alison of Colorado; Dr. Robert S. Karelitz and children Emily and Sam of Durham, New Hampshire; William B. Skaff, wife Jody and son Jesse of Hampton, New Hampshire; and Andrew P. Skaff, wife Jayne and children Sydney and Joel, of Seabrook Beach, New Hampshire; as well as many friends and former colleagues in Haverhill and on the Cape. He also leaves his best friend and faithful canine companion, Paxten.
