METHUEN - Hua Chen, 65, of Youyang, Chongqing, China and resident of Methuen, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2021.
Hua Chen was born in a small town in the city of Chongqing on April 16, 1955. She was the beloved daughter of Yuxiang Chen and Qizhen Hu, the loving sister of He Chen and Lin Chen - all of whom she lost many years ago. She was the cherished wife of Zhiya Tu, loving mother of Lixue Tu and well missed grandmother of Mia Oliveira and Sophie Oliveira.
Hua Chen worked and lived in China until she retired. She moved to the US to help take care of her grandchildren in 2017. Far away from everything she had been familiar with, she was thriving in this new country with her radiant energy and personality. She made every possible effort to learn the language, join local venues, embrace new cultures and challenge her old beliefs. She learned to enjoy American Football with chicken wings and cheered while watching the gay pride parade. She made friends with people she met everywhere and left an impression on them as a genuinely warm and kind person. She always took care of everyone around her and she was always ready to feed anyone with a bowl of hearty noodle soup.
Hua Chen loved life and did her best to enjoy it while she could. She was a great cook, balancing nutrition and taste to a master level; she was a self-taught Erhu player, playing tunes for herself and friends at gatherings; she was a hands-on artist, painting a small picture, knitting a sweater, crocheting a little doily, folding an origami flower. Her creativity shined through all the things she made through life. She loved singing and dancing with friends. She was also an active Taichi player and a yoga lover. Her life was full of energy and positive attitude. She respected life for its quality and seriousness. We value her life as Hua valued life itself.
