Herchel Glover Obituary

HAVERHILL - Herchel (Wayne) Duane Glover, of Haverhill, passed away on April 23, 2020 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Massachusetts due to ongoing health issues.

Herchel, who most knew him by Wayne, was born December 12, 1947 to his mother Loretta (Belt) Glover and father, Charles Glover, in Fairmont, West Virginia. He was born to a family of hard working coal miners. He also resided in Steubenville, Ohio before moving to New Hampshire to be Married to his wife of 52 years Edith Alice (Pope) Glover in 1968 while serving as a Private in the United States Marine Corps before becoming Lance Corporal from 1965 - 1969 and ending his term in North Carolina. From there he went on to join the Army Reserves for two years. After serving his country bravely, while known as a Vietnam war hero to many, he began to start another important chapter in his life. This is where Wayne would take on the rank of being a father for the first time in September of 1968. Although he may not have received a Purple Heart for this role, it is one that took just as much courage and dedication as his previous one.

Wayne was well known to be a jack of all trades. He took part in many roles, such as building beautiful homes, some of which can still be visited today, to even owning part of a company which sold cars. However, most knew him as their “go to” person for help with their automobiles. He was a well known mechanic in his area who worked for big companies such as Goodyear tire and even Chevrolet. He was always quick to help a friend, and has done much of his work in charity for people he cared about. He passed down his passion and love of cars to all his children. Along with that, a lot of his shared knowledge about survival came from his days of being a Marine, such as hunting, fishing and self defense. These qualities played a big part in him teaching his children the importance of being independent and self sufficient.

Wayne is survived by his devoted Wife of 52 years, Edith (Pope) Glover, their five children and significant others; Wayne, Glen (Pamala), Misty (Joseph), Tiffani (Brian) and Erica (Matthew), his 11 grandchildren, his sister Pattie, Linda, Jackie and Carl. He was predeceased by his first child, Wayne David, his Brother Arnold (Hap) and his sister Levonne along with his parents Loretta and Charles Glover. Due to current circumstances, there will be a small gathering for immediate family members only as we hold a Military style memorial service in Wayne’s memory.

As time changes and we are able to return to our normal activities, we then will be able to have a “Celebration of Life” get together for those who are able to attend. Further details will be sent out accordingly. If one chooses, flowers can be sent directly to family members.Arrangements by Driscoll Funeral Home, Haverhill.
