HAVERHILL - Gerard (Jerry) Paul Maher, of Haverhill, MA passed away at the age of 87 on Friday, December 30, 2022.
Jerry was born in Medford, MA, in 1935, to Patrick Maher and Margaret (McCall) Maher. He graduated from St. Clements High School, Somerville, and attended Boston College where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He joined the Army in 1956 and served in Germany from January, 1958 through July, 1959.
Jerry met his wife of 59 years, Judith (Hansen) Maher at Norumbega Park dance hall, and they were married in October 1963. They lived around the Boston area, but he especially loved the years that he spent on the Cape. He was a self-employed CPA for his entire life.
In addition to his beloved wife, Judy, he is survived by his four children and their spouses, Elaine (Maher) and Erik Sanborn, Christina Maher and Dave Toombs, Lynne (Maher) Williams, Paul Maher and Debie (Meck) Maher. Also, two grandchildren, Erika (Sanborn) White and her husband Sam, and James Sanborn. He is also survived by his brother, Lawrence Maher and sister, Patricia (Maher) Sabbey, and many nieces and nephews. An always loving father to his children and grandchildren, through example he taught kindness, compassion, humility and to occasionally approach life with a quick joke. He loved travel and being outdoors, even to the very last few weeks of his life.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 25 in Linwood Cemetery Chapel, 41 John Ward Ave, Haverhill, at 2:00 PM. Luncheon will follow at Roma Restaurant, 29 Middlesex Street, Haverhill.
