HAVERHILL - George C. Medelinskas, 73, died peacefully on October 19, 2021.
He was the beloved husband of Ginger Hurajt. He leaves behind his children Christopher Medelinskas and Sarah Kozuma Medelinskas and her husband Nori Kozuma; his sister Carol (Medelinskas) Elliot and her husband Jim; and his deceased sister Ann (Medelinskas) Sunderland; and several nieces and nephews.
George was born in Lawrence, MA on June 2, 1948. He attended Central Catholic High School; the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; and attained two masters degrees: at UNH (Education) and at UMass Lowell (Computer Science). His teaching career spanned from the second grade at Atkinson Academy to North Shore Community College and Northern Essex Community College where he taught Computer Science and Yoga and from which he retired in 2011. One of his proudest achievements was creating the College of Older Learners (CoOL) at NECC. He was a highly respected teacher who valued curiosity and lifelong learning.
George loved the water. He “grew up” on Salisbury Beach and throughout his life spent many happy hours there with friends and family. He bought a sailboat with his friend Peter Spellman and kayaked to the Maine islands with his friend Chris George. He was an avid rower on the Merrimack River and was a member of the Slack Tide Rowers in Groveland. George also loved to explore the outdoors with his son and enjoy his daughter’s baking at her café in Newmarket, NH. He recently traveled with his wife to England, Iceland and Japan, but also loved just being at home with her, his moss gardens and their three cats.
George will be remembered as an open-minded, open-hearted man beloved by many.
Celebration of George’s Life will be held on Sunday, October 24, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Contributions may be made in George’s name to the Glioblastoma Research Organization at www.gbmresearch.org. For guestbook, visit www.driscollcares.com
