George Folopoulos

HAMPSTEAD, NH - George James Folopoulos, 91, of Hampstead, NH, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

George was born on February 22, 1933, in Athens, Greece, the oldest of four children to the late Stamitoula and Dimitrius Folopoulos. He lived in Greece where he went to school and learned to be a tool and die maker. George joined the Merchant Marines in 1951, after traveling the world he then ported in New York Harbor in the fall of 1955 where he met distant relatives from Haverhill, MA. He decided to stay in the United States, where he met and married his first wife, the late Irene Kitsopoulos of Haverhill in 1956. George and Irene lived in Haverhill and had three kids. While raising a family, George attended night classes and gained his US citizenship in 1961 while also starting a career as a tool and die maker at Merrimack Spool and Die. Over the years he worked at Western Electric, Raytheon, and Scully Signal where he retired at eighty-nine years old. After spending twenty years in the Navy Reserves and being highly skilled, George was called into active duty during Desert Storm at fifty-six years old. George remarried in 1974 to the late Anna DiNatale and lived together in Methuen, MA for over 40 years. George loved history, travelling, learning different languages, and experiencing different cultures and cuisines. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, making wine, and had a thirst for knowledge, always reading his sets of encyclopedias. 

George will be deeply missed by his sister, Roula Folopoulos and sister in-law, Hara Folopoulos along with many nieces and nephews in Athens, Greece; his three children, Christos and his late wife Dawn Folopoulos, James and his wife Martha Folopoulos, Stamie and her husband Guy Guerra; his three stepchildren, Donna and her husband William Labombard, Deborah DiNatale, and Richard DiNatale; his five grandchildren, George and his wife Veronica Folopoulos, John and his wife Nicole Folopoulos, Sam and his wife Lucy Folopoulos, Mark and his wife Michelle Folopoulos, Elizabeth and her husband Peter Tentas; eight great-grandchildren, Anita, George, Joseph, Holly, Maximos, Loukas, Sophia and Callie.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 18, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Services will begin at 12:00 PM. For guestbook, visit www.driscollcares.com
