Frank Caruso Obituary

HAVERHILL - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Frank S. Caruso, age 86 who passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025. Frank was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was known for his feisty personality, his sharp wit, and the love he had for his family. Frank was born in Haverhill on December 27, 1938 and was a lifelong resident. He was the son of Salvatore and Jennie (Zappala) Caruso. He was a 1945  graduate of Haverhill Trade School and served in the U.S Marine Corps. For most of his life he worked for the Haverhill Gazette as well as the Lawrence Eagle Tribune.

Frank was the cherished husband of his late wife Elvelena B. Caruso and the proud father of his late daughter Melissa Caruso DeFusco. He is survived by his brother John Caruso and dear sister in-law Bette Caruso, his two wonderful grandchildren Ashley Caruso DeFusco and Micael DeFusco, as well as his son in-law Fausto Montefusco, all of Haverhill. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Frank was also the brother of the late Tom Caruso, Corrado Caruso, Nicolina Antonelli, and Rose DeBurro.

Frank loved the warm weather and taking vacations with his family, from yearly vacations to Myrtle Beach with the grandchildren, to exotic islands with his wife and daughter. If he wasn’t lying on a beach he was home in his pool, working on his pool, or doing yard work. Every spring he’d take his daughter and grandkids to buy new flowers to freshen up his yard that he was so proud of. During the colder months he enjoyed going to the movies with his popcorn and soda in hand, and was always up to date on the latest movies that were coming out. He loved to eat but he loved going out to breakfast with his daughter on the weekends and running errands with her the most. He used to be a season pass holder to the Patriots and an avid sports fan, he never missed a Red Sox nor Patriots game, and you could always hear him yelling at a TV somewhere or yelling from the stadium seats. Back in the day he was one of the areas top candlepin bowlers, he was the winner of many local tournaments in the 50’s and 60’s and one of the first Haverhill residents to bowl a league 300 Triple. In addition to bowling Frank also loved playing cards with his family, whether it be the holiday tradition of playing Scram, or playing for fun with his wife and sister in-law.

Frank will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His feisty personality, kind heart, laughter, and devotion to his family will forever live on in our hearts.
