Elizabeth A. (Fletcher) Crossman

August 31, 1930 ~ May 29, 2022 (age 91)

HAVERHILL - Well, today is not a good day. Your name is finally in the ‘Irish Sports Page’.

Elizabeth A. (Fletcher) Crossman of Haverhill, formerly of Ipswich and Georgetown, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2022 at home, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born in Boston on August 31, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth N. and Frances E. (Maloney) Fletcher, and the oldest of seven brothers and sisters. She graduated from Mission Church High School in 1948 and married soon after in 1949, where she was blessed with four children. In her later years, she met the love of her life, Walter “Wally” G. Crossman at church in 1969, whom she married in Ipswich on May 21, 1971.

She ran the Post Office of Bradford College prior to her retirement in 1998, and loved to travel (apart from the car rides to and from). As an avid knitwit, she was always within reach of her knitting bag and a skein of yarn. She was an original member of the Needle Crafters of the Kimball Library of Atkinson, NH and an active member of the Knit Chicks, a charity-knitting organization also of Atkinson. Together with her group, she donated countless hats, baby sweaters, scarves, and blankets to those in need. Elizabeth loved reading, cooking, bubble baths, her morning newspapers, tending to her plants, and remaining current on the news and weather. She is, and forever will be, the only member of the family to perfect the Thanksgiving gravy.

A respected and loving matriarch, she will be remembered for her resilience, wit, and abundant love. She never needed an excuse to send a card or loving note, or a reason to brag about her beloved granddaughters, Elizabeth and Alysha. She cherished spending time with her family and never missed an event, always arriving early to scout out the perfect seat. Her innate ability to listen and support others also extended outside of her family, touching many lives along the way. She was a remarkable and impressive woman, also known for her witty sense of humor and her perfectly crafted one-liners. Ask anyone in her family, and they’ll be able to tell you the importance of her index finger.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Kenneth N., Jr., Frances A., Mary M. Foley, Robert J., John H. “Jack”, and Gerard P. “Gerry”, her husband Wally, and her son, William S. “Scott” Marshall.

Her legacy and loving memory is survived by her children, Steven P. Marshall of Haverhill, Beth A. Marshall of Taunton, and Sharon A. Crossman-Assaf (Antoine) of Atkinson, NH; grandchildren, Charity I. Guido (Jonathan), Joshua J. Marshall (Arlana), Adam R. DeCoste (Kristen), Elizabeth C. Assaf Snay (Bradley), and Alysha N. Assaf; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Cayden, Serenity, Quinntyn, and Annabel; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Though times are challenging, always remember: “This too shall pass.”
