HAVERHILL - Eleni 'Helen' Sofronas passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024 at the young age of 58 after a 13 month long battle with stage 4 Pancreatic cancer.
Eleni is from a family of six siblings and was born on January 22, 1966. Daughter of the late Dimitrios and Konstantina Katis of Kalamata, Greece. She is survived by her husband Antonios Sofronas and three children, Eftihia and husband Jarid and their children Leonidas and Athanasios Smart, Nikolaos Sofronas, Dimitra and husband Kory and their children Kyros and Kostadinos Janelle.
Eleni came to America without knowing the language and created a beautiful life for her children and family. When she first came to America in the 1980’s she worked as a seamstress in the Lawrence Mills and then eventually transitioned in the Healthcare industry and worked as a nurse at the old Kanoza Manor taking care of the elderly. After her third child was born she became a successful business owner as an in-home childcare provider. She loved every child like they were her own and for 29 years she devoted her life to nurturing and caring for many children
Eleni enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, cooking, baking, painting, construction, renovation, gardening, early morning walks, Greek music, dancing and was a devoted lifelong member of Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Haverhill, MA. She was a very strong, independent, positive woman who loved being social and helping anyone any way she could. Her love and selfless giving can be seen and felt throughout the entire community and anyone who had the honor of meeting her.
Eleni was a devoted Wife, Mother, Yiayia, Friend, Aunt, Sister and Child Care provider who will be greatly missed, deeply cherished and never forgotten. May her memory be eternal.
Visitation will be Monday, December 30 in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Services will be held on Tuesday at Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154 Winter Street, Haverhill at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Linwood Cemetery.
