GROVELAND – Donald G. Cayer, 78, resident of Groveland, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 17, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born in Lawrence on June 9, 1943, one of seven children of Philibert and Yvonne (Houde) Cayer of St. Appolinare, Canada. Raised in Lawrence and he attended St. Ann’s Grammar School and graduated from Central Catholic High School.
Don was a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam as a door gunner on a helicopter. After returning from overseas he then became an aircraft ordinance instructor, supply sergeant and ROTC weapons instructor at Auburn University. He later owned and operated Don's Texaco in Lawrence until 1973. He also worked for Grava Chrysler in Medford, Burlington Dodge and Clark motors until retirement. His activities included fishing, boating and he had a passion for antique cars.
Don was married to his cherished wife Pauline (Gallant) who passed in 2014. Surviving family members include children Christopher Cayer and wife Jacinda Rich, Stacey Cayer, Richard Cayer and wife Anna and Michael Cayer and wife Danielle; adored grandchildren David Jennings, Jessica Cayer, Samantha Cayer, Madison Cayer, Mason Cayer, Colton Cayer, Kayla Cayer and Olivia Cayer; brother of the late Jean Paul Cayer, Joseph Cayer, Richard Cayer, Rachel Berube, Doris Bedard and Lucille Keegan.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 23, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Interment with U.S. Army Honors on Friday in Riverview Cemetery, Groveland at 11:00 AM. For guestbook, visit www.driscollcares.com
