NEWBURYPORT – Diana Elizabeth (Cate) Philip, passed away unexpectedly after a short illness, Monday, September 23, 2024. Born on June 5, 1936, she was the daughter of Clifton J. and Elisabeth F. (White) Cate in Springfield, MA. Diana graduated from Westfield High School in 1954, and attended Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
Predeceased by her former husband, Andrew Philip, and a brother, David N. Bogdan of Westfield, MA, she is survived by two sisters, Audrey J. Kiley of Colorado Springs, CO, and Dorothea W. Cate, of Ossipee, NH, three brothers, Charles C. Cate of Ogunquit, ME, Bruce A. Bogdan of Fruitland Park, FL, and Douglas A. Bogdan also of Westfield, MA, and their combined families of much cherished two generations of nieces and nephews.
In recent years, among her favorite places to visit were Maudslay State Park, and especially, the boardwalks overlooking the beaches and marshes of Plum Island. Although an artist first and foremost, in addition to the creation of hundreds of drawings, paintings and sculpture, Diana was an accomplished poet, a devotee of literature and an avid listener of classical and folk music, as well as an advocate for social reform, ever lending her support on behalf of those she thought less fortunate than herself.
