Delwyn ‘Del’ R. Cummings, 78, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Lawrence General Hospital.
He was born on February 24, 1947, in Machias Maine to Lucielle (Bowdoin) Cummings and Lloyd Ambert Cummings. He grew up in Jonesport, ME where he was a great baseball and basketball player. His early days were spent fishing, clamming and hunting. After graduation from high school, he was drafted by the United States Army and served in Vietnam. Upon returning home, he enjoyed traveling and eventually landing a job with Western Electric now Lucent Technologies and advancing to an ISO9000 Engineer. He had quite a few hobbies, including golf, playing softball as part of a league, riding mountain bikes as well as motorcycles. He and his wife Susan traveled frequently as members of the Harley Owners Group. Del and Susan met many wonderful lifetime friends on their adventures. Del was a lifetime member of the Crescent Yacht Club in Haverhill where he enjoyed socializing with other members and friends.
Del is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years Susan (Carroll) Cummings; son Richard L. Cummings and wife Michelle and their son Mickey of Georgetown; aunt Maxine Porter of Cutler, ME; niece Amie Cascino of VA; brother in-law Robert Carroll and wife Nancy of Dover, NH; and many cousins. Del was proceeded in death by his father Lloyd Cummings, mother Lucille Cummings, brother Lloyd Ambert Cummings, Jr., stepfather Merton Garnett and his beloved son Anthony Paul Cummings.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 17, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Service beginning at 3:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, April 24 in the Crescent Yacht Club in Haverhill, starting at 5:00 PM.
