GROVELAND - With great sadness, we announce the passing of loving wife and mother, Debra Young. We lost our angel just after dawn on Tuesday, April 20, following a long battle with cancer. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
She was an incredible person with a big heart who would help anyone, especially her neighbors and friends. She had a passion for carpentry and interior design as exemplified by her house and yard which she transformed over the course of her 22 years in Groveland. She loved her town and served on the zoning board for several years. Mostly, she loved her two daughters. God, family and country were the most important things in her life. As if by the hand of God, a strong wind blew the American flag hanging by the front door across Deb as she was being led from her beloved home for the last time.
Debra was born February 7, 1960 in Salem, MA and graduated from the Essex Aggie in 1978. She leaves behind her husband Barry Young of Groveland, daughter Tiffany (Owsiak/Young) Douglas and son in-law Benjamin of Amesbury and daughter Katherine Young of Georgetown. She is also survived by brother Michael Godjikian and brother in-law Timothy Ryan of East Arlington, VT, brother Arthur Godjikian, Jr. and wife Connie of Saint Maries, ID, nieces Danielle Godjikian and Sara (Godjikian) Pereira, brothers in-law Greg Young and Alan Young and sister in-law Barbara (Young) Collupy. Debra was recently predeceased by her parents Arthur and Estelle (Legault) Godjikian of Salem, MA.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 23, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Services will begin Saturday in the funeral home at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Groveland. Note to wear face coverings and social distancing measures will be in place. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Debra’s memory to Homes for Our Troops, an organization which the family has supported by participating in the annual 5K races for the past several years at www.hfotusa.org/donate.
