Carole Dupray Obituary

HAVERHILL - Carole Ann Dupray, 75, of Haverhill, MA and formerly of Ipswich, MA passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, May 24, 2024 surrounded by the love and company of her family and community.

Carole was born on August 10, 1948 in Ipswich, MA to Clarence S. and Shirley E. (McPhee) Dupray. Carole was fortunate to have lived at home with her parents and younger brother for many years. Having attended the Winthrop School in Ipswich, the St. Colleta School for Exceptional Children in Hanover, MA (1964 to 1967) and the Bass River day program, Carole never let her “exceptionalness” defeat her. Known for her bicycle rides around the town of Ipswich; it was not unusual for young Carole to take a leisurely ride through the streets, returning a few hours later none the worse for the trip.

Ipswich, as would be expected, turned out to be the perfect place to grow up in a beach-intense family where breakfast was consumed on Saturday and Sunday at Crane Beach and was often followed by long walks, swimming in the cold Atlantic and collecting shells. When not at the beach the family could be found traveling to Nova Scotia to visit relatives or Gilford, NH to spend a couple of weeks on Lake Winnipesaukee. Travel by car; convertible with top down, was her favorite.

After 35 years of living at home Carole was invited to become a founding member of Irenicon, a L’Arche Community, which had its beginning on the La Salette Property in Ipswich. Under the guidance of two absolutely remarkable women; Elizabeth Buckley and Sister Pat Murphy, the idea of a community living home for life took root on the North Shore and today is known as L’Arche Boston North. The strength and for-sight of these two women brought comfort and joy for Carole’s family as well as many other families with exceptional members.

Those that know Carole, know that she was never one to let her guard down. If she knew you she loved you, once she met you she knew you, and if she had been somewhere that you needed to go she could direct you there even if years later. If she participated or joined in with an activity it was done on her terms.

Carole was predeceased by her parents; Clarence and Shirley. She is survived by her brother Donald and his wife Patricia (Pickul) of Rowley, her nephews Donald Jr. and his wife Ryan of Las Vegas, NV and Westley and his wife Makayla of Saugus, MA and her entire loving community at L’Arche Boston North.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM.
