Obituary

William T. “Bill” Dixon passed away on June 21, 2026, from complications of gastric cancer, with loving family by his side.

Bill was born on May 23, 1949, in Lawrence, MA to William T. Dixon Sr. and Kathleen Riley. He was raised in Methuen and Lawrence, and he was a long-time resident of Haverhill. He graduated from Tenney High School in 1968, and he received his bachelor’s degree from St. Francis College (now the University of New England) in 1972.

Bill worked for the Boston & Maine Railroad for 12 years, and then he spent decades in turf and landscape management, finishing his career at the Essex County Co-Op. He was known as an expert in his field and served as a trusted resource and mentor to many.

Bill was known for his kindness, good humor, and a deep and abiding curiosity about the world around him. He was always ready with a joke or a good story; his gift was his ability to make every person who was talking to him feel like they were chatting with a good friend. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Bill was pre-deceased by his mother, father, his brother John, his step-brothers Jack and Donald, and his step-sister Sheila. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Ellen Dixon of Haverhill, MA; his daughter Kate Dixon of Andover, MA; his daughter Joanna Dixon, her husband William Randolph, and grandchildren Annabelle and Billy Randolph of Andover, MA; his step-sister Nancy Angus of Leominster, MA; and by many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
