GROVELAND: Walter W. Davis, Jr., 84, beloved husband of Greta (Hood) Davis, passed away March 24, 2010 at Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill.

Born in Boston on November 26, 1925, Mr. Davis was the son of the late Walter W. Davis Sr., and Mary (Perry) (Davis) Whiting.

He was educated in Bradford, and graduated from Newburyport High School, Class of 1944. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine during WW11 and Korea. He fought in the Pacific, and participated in the fighting on Okinawa. Prior to his retirement in 1987 he worked 35 years as a tool and die maker in the skilled trades department at Western Electric and AT&T.

Walter was a member of First Baptist Church and Saggahew Lodge, A.F. & A.M. He was a good friend to everyone, and was willing to always lend a hand to all when needed. He will be missed for his easy-going nature and "never better" attitude toward life.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Susan Reilly and her husband Charles O'Neill of Fallbrook, CA, Elaine Vaillancourt and her partner Leon Artus of Atkinson, NH; grandchildren, Kate Lynne Reilly and her partner Jason Chamberlain, Charles Davis O'Neill of CA, Jeanne Pearce and her husband Matthew of Weaver, AL, and Gregory Vaillancourt and his fiance Sarah Duddy of Portsmouth, NH.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Thursday, April 29, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Calling hours will precede the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment at Riverview Cemetery.
