GROVELAND: Virginia (Ruggles) Wright, 93, died Saturday morning at her home at Nichols Village. Mrs. Wright was the wife of Frank E. Wright. Born in Quincy November 27, 1913, Mrs. Wright was the daughter of the late Willis H. and Elizabeth M. (Black) Ruggles.
Mrs. Wright was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School class of 1931, and received her BS degree from Simmons College in 1935. She taught Home Economics in Greater Haverhill schools, and for ten years in North Andover Middle School before her retirement in 1969. Mrs. Wright was a member, trustee and past president of the Ladies Circle and Religious Education Committee of the Haverhill Universalist Unitarian Church. Her community dedication is evidenced by her participation in Girl Scouts, past president of the PTA, founding member and past president of the Friends of the Library, founding member of the Council on Aging, Groveland Historical Society, board member and former volunteer of the Northern Essex Elder Transport, and former board member of the Greater Haverhill mental Health and Welfare. Mrs. Wright supported several peace and environmental organizations.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years; daughter Mary Kranyak and her husband Michael of Stratford, CT; sons Frank W. Wright of South Portland, ME, Timothy R. Wright of Groveland; granddaughters Connie Kranyak, Emmie Wright, and several cousins. It was Mrs. Wrights wish to participate in the Anatomical Gift Program at the University of Mass Medical School.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service Saturday, Nov. 3rd, at 2:30 p.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Calling hours will precede the service from 1:30 to 2:30. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Universalist Unitarian Church, 15 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill, MA 01830, or Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack Street, Lawrence, MA 01843.
