Virginia R. (Graffam) Powell, 89, passed away on April 3, 2012 at Penacook Place. Mrs. Powell was the wife of the late H. Lee Powell, Jr.

Born in Haverhill on May 29, 1922, Mrs. Powell was the daughter of the late Earle W. and Mabel I. (Riley) Graffam.

Virginia attended Haverhill High School, graduated from Eastern Nazarene Academy, and graduated from Eastern Nazarene College in 1943. She was an active member of the former First Congregational Church, Women's Guild, and Thoughtful Circle of the King's Daughters. She was a member of the PTA when her children were young, Hosford Club, Women's City Club of Haverhill, The League of Women Voters, and was supportive of the Haverhill Kiwanis Club during the time of her husband's active membership. She traveled extensively with her family throughout the U.S. and the world.

Mrs. Powell was the mother of the late Terrance L. Powell, Gaynelle Cohen and her husband Ronald of Windham, NH, Eric Powell and his wife Patricia of Groveland; grandmother of Erin G. Heilig, Joy A. Reggiani and her husband Steve, Shana Kelley-Cohen and her wife Jody of Topsham, ME, Rachel F. Cohen, Jason P. Cohen and his fiance Caroline Moreira, Benjamin W. Powell and his wife Lisa, Samuel L. Powell; great grandchildren, Joshua R. Kelley-Cohen, Levi J. Kelley-Cohen and Raymond L. Powell; daughter-in-law and friend, Ann Bieber of Salem, NH. Virginia also leaves her love and constant companion, Cody, her golden retriever.

Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral on Friday, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00, at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Calling hours Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment at Linwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue, P.O. Box 808, Hudson, NH 01749.
