Timothy R.
Wright
November 28, 1946 – January 2, 2025
GROVELAND - Timothy Ruggles Wright died at his home in Groveland, Massachusetts on January 2, 2025. He was 78 years old. Tim was born on November 28, 1946 in Lynn, Massachusetts to Frank E. and Virginia R. Wright, the youngest of three children. Tim was predeceased by his parents and his older sister Mary Kranyak of Stratford, Connecticut, and survived by his brother Frank Willis Wright of Cape Neddick, Maine, his nieces Connie Demko of CT and Emmie Carrigan and their spouses and children.
Tim grew up in Groveland and attended local schools, graduating from Pentucket Regional High School in 1964, where many fellow students became lifelong friends. He attended Fryeburg Academy in Maine and then earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and a Masters Degree in Psychology from Springfield College.
In 1970 Tim was appointed Director of Student Affairs at Essex Agricultural and Technical School in Danvers, where he advised and assisted returning veterans and adult students in their career pursuits. During that time Tim lived at the Alfalfa Farm in Danvers and made lifelong friendships with other faculty and students. During summer breaks, Tim at various times worked on lobster boats on Matinicus Island Maine and on cattle ranches in Montana.
Tim prided himself on being a true New England Yankee. He believed in hard work, resourcefulness and self-reliance. He loved Groveland, his Ward Hill sugaring-off buddies, auctions, flea markets, old tractors, Franklin stoves and Hoosier cabinets. He was a constant student of history and loved museums. He loved gardening and sharing his harvest, fly-fishing in Montana, a good IPA, Aunt Ruby's peanuts and making his famous potato salad. Above all, he was a devoted friend who made every effort to keep his wide circle of friends close, still joining college roommates for a reunion barbecue every summer.
Tim was loved by his family and was deeply loved by his companion of many years, Sandra Clark of Amesbury and her children and their children. Together Tim and Sandy road-tripped throughout New England, especially midcoast Maine, visited national parks in the west, shared meals and holidays and significant events with family and friends, cheering at the grandchildren's sporting events near and far.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 22, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Words of Remembrance will begin at 2:30 PM. Interment and celebration of life will be held later in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be in Tim's honor to the Groveland Historical Society, PO Box 178, Groveland, MA 01834; Matinicus Island Library Association, 74 South Road, Matinicus, ME 04851; or Montana Freshwater Partners, Inc, PO Box 338, Livingston, MT 59047.
