Thomas Edward Guertin, of Bradford, MA, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. He was 46.
Born in Methuen, MA, he was the son of Edward Christopher Guertin and Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Guertin.
Known as Tommy or Tom, he attended Sacred Hearts School and Haverhill High School, where he played football and basketball, serving as a hoop captain during his senior year. He earned a degree from Northeastern University in 2003.
He leaves his parents, Edward Christopher Guertin and Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Guertin, of Bradford, MA; siblings Sean Guertin of North Andover; Keri Ryan (husband Michael) of Bradford, MA; Tricia Benjamin (husband John) of Salem, NH; Kevin Guertin (wife Lauren) of Derry, NH; and nieces and nephews: Luke, Mikey and John Ryan; Joey and Brie Benjamin; and Kaylee, Shea and Mackie Guertin.
Amongst his extended family, which grew quite large, Tom’s happiest memories were made. With the television tuned to the biggest sporting event of the day, Tom was quick to laugh; quicker to correct and quickest to point out that he was accurate with a statistic or analysis. These moments are what everyone who came in contact with him – in a fantasy football league, in the stands at one of his nieces or nephews’ sport events, in a conversation at his favorite vacation spot (Mittersill in Franconia, NH) – will remember.
While Tom was never one to brag, he would – when prompted – relate colorful stories of growing up on 8th Avenue in Haverhill; scoring 64 of 66 points, while finishing the game playing 2 on 5, at the Haverhill Boys Club; catching passes against Merrimack Valley Conference football opponents; Sunday night HHS basketball practices in which, he always noted, began and ended exactly on time; or stories of Little League teammates whose appearances were brief but memorable. It was during these tales that friends and family saw humility and self-deprecation and, most of all, perfect recall with a kind of “You believe that?” humor.
While his stay on earth was too brief, Tom will be remembered with a smile and a shrug, or a sly grin and a nod to his forever hometown, Haverhill.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 12, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street Haverhill from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Words of Remembrance will begin at 6:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to either the Muscular Dystrophy Association or to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Haverhill. For guestbook, visit www.driscollcares.com
