HAVERHILL: Thelma (Britton) Perkins, 96, passed away on June 22, 2024 at Lakeview House in Haverhill.
She was born October 17, 1927 in West Newbury, MA, daughter of Truman and Irene (Scott) Britton.
Thelma and her husband Carl H. Perkins celebrated their 50th Anniversary on September 23, 1996; Carl passed in 1998. Thelma was also predeceased by her son C. Russell Perkins in 2000. She was a lifelong resident of Haverhill, MA, and graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1945.
She was employed in the Haverhill High School System for 22 years, retiring in 1989. Previously, she was employed as an operator at New England Telephone Company.
She was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church in Haverhill for 83 years; and for 31 of those years, she was dedicated to delivering the Sunday Service flowers to shut-ins and church members unable to attend services. For many years she bowled as a member of the ladies' leagues. She was an avid reader and loved music, gardening, and her church. Most recently, playing scrabble with family was her favorite pastime.
She leaves four daughters: Sharon Bradley of Thornton, NH, Cheryl Perkins of Exeter, NH, Daryl Perkins, and Carolyn Perkins, both of Amesbury. She was blessed with five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition, she leaves one great niece, one cousin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may pay their respects at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main St., Haverhill on Sunday, June 30th. Visitation hours will be 1:00 to 4:00pm to be followed by a brief Memorial service.
Private burial will be at Merrimack Cemetery in West Newbury at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Thelma's name should be made to First Baptist Church, 217 Main St., Haverhill, MA 01830.
