Haverhill: Shirley E. (Powers) Haseltine, 91, died February 24th at Hannah Duston Health Care Center.

Born in Haverhill January 31, 1917, Mrs. Haseltine was the daughter of the late Gardner L. and Marion E. (Wason) Powers.

Following her graduation from Haverhill High School and Abbott Academy she continued her education graduating from Wheaton College in 1939, and Salem State College where she received her Masters in Education. Mrs. Haseltine enjoyed a fulfilling career as a French Teacher and Guidance Department Counselor at Haverhill High School before her retirement in 1991. As an active member of the community she was a member of the Universalist Unitarian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Hosford Club, City Club, and Hale Hospital Auxiliary volunteer.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy Emerson Read and her husband Robert M. Denny of Summerville, NC, and granddaughter Abigail Emerson Read of St. Paul, MN.

Services at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill will be private, and there will be no calling hours. Interment at Linwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Haverhill Historical Society, 240 Water Street, Haverhill, MA 01830.
