Haverhill: Ruth A. (Payne) Weekes, 75, passed away September 23, 2011 at the Baker-Katz Nursing Home. Mrs. Weekes was the wife of the late Oscar W. Weekes.

Born in St. Michael, Barbados, Mrs. Weekes was the daughter of the late Joseph and Iola (Prescod) Payne.

Mrs. Weekes came to the United States at age sixteen. She had lived in Providence, RI before moving to Haverhill to be with her daughter. Mrs. Weeks had worked for more than twenty-five years as a key punch operator for AT&T before her retirement. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Her interests include flower and vegetable gardening, knitting and crocheting.

Mrs. Weekes is survived by her children, Jennifer I. Peterson and her husband Paul of Haverhill, Oscar W. Weekes, Jr. and his wife Theresa of Plantation, FL, Michael A. Weekes of Providence, RI; grandsons, Jason Peterson and Wyatt Weekes; brothers, Charles, Fitzroy, Marcus and Alvin Payne; sister, Yvonne Phillips, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Gwendolyn Dodson and Joseph Payne, Jr.

Family and friends are invited to the funeral Wednesday, Sept. 28th, 1:00 p.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Calling hours will precede the funeral from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
