Obituary

NORTH ANDOVER: Ruth M. McGlew, 94, formerly of Groveland, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, at Holy Family Hospital Methuen. She was the wife of the late Donald O. McGlew, married for just shy of fifty-five loving years.

Born in Haverhill on May 13, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Charles O. and Ruby A. (Brown) Saunders.

Ruth worked at Western Electric until she devoted herself to raising her five children and being Grammy and Meme to her nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. There was nothing she enjoyed more than a large, noisy gathering with family and friends. Ruth had an impressive green thumb and enjoyed endless hours working in her gardens. She enjoyed bowling, was a talented crafter (especially with a crochet hook), and avid puzzler, word game wizard and cribbage player. Ruth will always be remembered for her competitive nature no matter whom she was playing. Later in life, Ruth volunteered for the Town of Groveland, Council on Aging. She hosted a popular game day for seniors and her homemade snacks were enjoyed by all. She donated hundreds of hand crocheted granny square lap robes to High Pointe House in Haverhill and to local Veteran's organizations. Additionally, Ruth made and donated tiny hats that went to Anna Jacques Hospital in memory of her great-granddaughter Ava who was born an angel.

Ruth is survived by her daughters; Donna Pivnick and her husband Jay of Wolfeboro, NH, Rhonda Adams and her husband Arthur of Effingham, NH, Judy Dircks and husband Tommi of Valrico, FL, Laura Marchand and her husband David of Methuen, and her son Donald and his wife Terri of Carrollton, GA, her 9 grandchildren, Crystal, Annette, Arthur, Craig, Derek, Stacey, Taylor, Hayley, Adam, and 15 great grandchildren. Ruth was pre-deceased by her siblings, Richard Saunders, Charles Saunders, Helen Conley, Evelyn Parker, Albert Saunders and Charlene Gallant.
