Obituary

WINCHESTER, NH: Roger Clayton Oberle, a long-time resident of 1 Water Street, Haverhill, MA, passed away November 21, 2022 at Applewood Rehabilitation Center.

Roger was born in Sandown, NH on April 3, 1931, the son of the late Herman J. Oberle and Beatrice (Hoyt) Oberle.

Roger attended his first three years of school in a one-room schoolhouse in Sandown, NH, and subsequently in Medford, MA where the family lived for nine years.

In 1953, he entered the U.S. Army and served six years. He was especially proud of his last two years, stationed in Alaska as an Army cook.

After the military, Roger worked at a local diner in Haverhill as a Short Order Cook; he then went to work at the former Hale Hospital where he retired after 27 years' employment in the Laundry Department. Roger has been a volunteer in several capacities including walking and fund raising for Food for Hunger and for many years working at Open Hand Pantry and Joyful Ladle food kitchen.

Roger loved living in Haverhill where he had many friends and acquaintances. He was very pleased to receive a plaque from the Mayor of Haverhill in observance of his 80 th birthday.

Roger is survived by his sister, Martha Tenney of Gilsum, NH and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He was the brother of the late Herman J. Oberle, Jr. and Carol Ann Hall.

Arrangements at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. A graveside service at Sandown Cemetery, with full military honors, will be conducted at a later date. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.dcsfuneralhome.com
