April 15, 1929 – August 27, 2015
HAVERHILL - Robert H. Rand, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill.
Robert was born and raised in Olney, PA. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, and served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant Junior Grade on the USS Baltimore during the Korean War. He had a successful career in architecture and lived in Berwyn, PA with his wife, Nancy Joan Thomsen, for 35 years. They enjoyed years of sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, and volunteering at school and scout activities. Bob was active on the Tredyffrin Township Planning commission. They retired to Brandon, Vermont where he was active with the local planning board and enjoyed volunteering at the Henry Sheldon Museum in Middlebury, VT during their holiday train displays.
After his wife Nancy's passing in 1995, he married Dorothy Kimball Hart in 1997 and enjoyed many happy years with the Hart family in Massachusetts and sailing in Maine. Robert was a lifelong photographer, Bob's artwork will be cherished by family and friends for many years.
He is pre-deceased by his sister Ruth. His surviving family members include by his son, Geoffrey Rand wife Anne and granddaughter Martha of Ipswich, MA, and his daughter Cynthia Kirsten Stewart Bunte and husband Kirk Bunte and grandson Callahan Stewart of Exton, PA. Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2015 in the Trinitarian Congregational Church, 54 Walden Street, Concord, MA at 1:30 PM. Interment will take place on Tuesday, September 15 at 1:30 PM, in Lawnview Cemetery, Rockledge, PA.
Contributions may be made in Roberts's memory to either the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Avenue, Haverhill, MA 01830 or the Henry Sheldon Museum, 1 Park Street, Middlebury, VT 05753.
